Biography
New Age Pop singer, May Ong aka ShiXian, is Calvin (Parablue Studios) groomed artiste as well as wife. Having a voice similar in tone to artiste like Sinead 'o' Connor, Sarah Mclachlan, Enya etc etc, yet encompassing her own unique angelic quality of serenity harmony filled with her tint of innocence, her voice is known to melt people's hearts and put them into a dream state.
She sings original songs under her artist band ShiXian as well performs cover songs in numerous performances. Her own song influences are fill up with groups like Carpenters, Abba etc etc, and her passion for singing opens her mind to any genre and opportunity.
She is currently working as a PA in NCSS (National Council of Social Service), and having an autistic son, she wishes to use her vocal talents as a means to assist the social service sector, church and special kid's society.
Her vocal styles were cultivated from numerous singing experiences in church and musicals. She started singing at a young age, in her teens, where she joined several organizations, most notably Kucinta, Ocean Butterflies.
In 1998, she got trained in singing by her musical vocal teacher, Anthony Winters and got involved with Rockdale Musical Society in Australia. The following year, when she came back to Singapore, she got more involved with singing for choirs, and she's still in choir singing at present.
With numerous other singing experiences, she finally met up with Calvin in 2003. Calvin roped her into his band, Genetic Habit, where she was backup singer to lead vocalist/producer, Clifton See. The band sort of ended in 2005, and Calvin decided to focus on developing May as an original artiste, under the actname ShiXian.
Sleeper's Tale album completed production in 2009 and released in CD Baby in 2011.
Calvin took awhile to understand what brings out May's voice and after the completion of the Modern Asia album, he has decided to go along with the flow of May's passion instead of his own regards to ShiXian's music direction, yet giving a leeway of side albums for his own projects.
With the coming of the 2nd album 'When Heaven Comes' (Contemporary Pop Ballad), which targets at Autism movement, as well as social service sector, the album is the first step to working with May's voice and serving a good cause.
